Córa Rose Tierney-Donoghue

By her Mammy Erin

Córa Rose was born on 6th December 2021 and shares her birthday with her great grandmother.

After a healthy pregnancy and smooth labour, she came into this world weighing 7lbs 4oz and I will never forget the feeling of holding her on my chest, just magical. We were young parents and unsure how to navigate our way through this journey, but at that moment, we knew we were whole.

On home we went and Córa was welcomed by her grandparents, aunts and uncles…it goes without saying we all had a wonderfully happy Christmas that year. Córa is the first grandchild on both sides so naturally everyone doted on her and she was spoiled rotten!

Córa, an extremely happy, curious, bubbly baby was a dream. She made parenting so easy for us, she slept through the night from 6 weeks old, rarely made strange and took to breastfeeding like a duck to water.

As the months went by, she was reaching all her milestones and growing more beautiful by the day. Córa came everywhere with us, and we had plenty of adventures. We visited the Aillwee caves and the Burren, cruised along the cliffs of Moher, hiked Djouce mountain and had many a stroll in Donadea Forest..to name a few.

Córa soon started projectile vomiting and on 22nd July 2022, our hearts broke for the first time. Our darling daughter was diagnosed with a rare & aggressive embryonal tumour with multilayered rosettes (ETMR) in her brain and spinal cord. We couldn’t believe it, it sounded like something from a film. We were transferred to Temple Street Hospital where she had two surgeries, one to drain the swelling and another to attempt to remove the tumours.

Sadly, it was not to be and on 31st July 2022, just 10 days after her showing symptoms, Córa drifted off to sleep in our arms, surrounded by her loving family. Our lives have been so grey since that day, when we lost our smiley little ray of sunshine.

Córa gave us 7 months of love, laughter and immense joy. She was adored by everyone, always giving anyone she met one of her precious smiles. She touched every soul she met and left a little hand print on every heart. To this day, everyone talks and remembers her…there will never be another like our Córa Rose.
