Empowering Parents and Survivors

We empower parents and young people by providing workshops and training sessions which help you to find and use your voice.

Sharing your story is a reminder to you and others that you’re not alone. Every story is different and telling yours can be a powerful tool in helping you to have your voice heard, help others to understand your experience and even to bring about change.

But telling our own story can be challenging and leave us feeling vulnerable. How much to share, how much to keep private, what messages would we like to get across…

We are delighted to offer two new training workshops to parents and survivors – helping to empower you to tell your story and to have your voice heard in a meaningful way.

You may want to get involved in campaigning to effect change, talk to the media, or even just explain your experience at work or college. These workshops will empower you to have the confidence to share your experience and to communicate effectively, helping others to better understand your experience and point of view.

Amplifying Our Voice

This workshop is for survivors of childhood cancer aged 16 – 24, enabling you to explore ways of using your voice and experience to communicate your experience and bring about change.

In this training, participants will:

  • Explore the power of personal stories as a way of encouraging connection and inspiring action
  • Spend some time exploring and developing your own story
  • Consider ways in which to protect themselves when sharing their story and mapping their boundaries
  • Think about it is that you need and how to ask for it – self advocacy which is essential as we move through education and into employment
  • Help people to care about your issue or cause
  • Learn a framework for storytelling, and practice using it to share your story

When: 9th May, 6 – 8.30pm (with breaks)

Where: on Zoom

Register: You can register here in advance. If we are oversubscribed for this session, we’ll organise another session soon.
