Expert Director (lived experience)
The Board of Childhood Cancer Ireland is currently seeking individuals with lived experience of childhood, adolescent or young adult cancer, either as a parent, patient or survivor, to join our board as an expert with lived experience.
This is an opportunity to bring your personal experience and expertise to the Board of Directors and to play a key role in developing and securing future services for Children, Adolescents, Young Adults and Survivors (CAYAS) living with cancer and their families.
Your unique perspective will add greatly our Board’s decision making and ensure that we continue to place the parent, patient and survivor experience at the heart of our work and strategic direction.
Previous board experience, as well as other areas of professional experience (such as finance, HR, legal, etc) would be an advantage but are not essential.
This role is unpaid, in line with the Charities Regulator requirements; however, reasonable expenses may be paid in line with Childhood Cancer Ireland’s expenses policy.
Specific duties include:
- Adding your lived experience expertise to the Board’s skill set and guiding the Board on the strategic direction of Childhood Cancer Ireland’s work in services, support, advocacy and awareness.
- Advising Childhood Cancer Ireland on issues related to the patient, survivor and parent experience both during and post treatment.
- Advocate on behalf of other families in a similar position.
- Participate in group discussions, voicing your own opinion and bringing your experience to bear.
General Trustee duties of a Director of a Board include:
- Comply with the Charity’s constitution and governing documents.
- Ensure that the charity is compliant with its charitable purpose.
- Acting in the best interest of the charity.
- Manage the assets of the charity.
- Prepare for and attend Board meetings (more information below).
Essential experience for this role:
- Experience of childhood, adolescent or young adult cancer, either as a parent, patient or survivor (over the age of 18).

Board Meetings:
- There will be a minimum of six board meetings and a minimum of three sub-committee meetings a year.

Fundraising/Communications Director
The Board of Childhood Cancer Ireland is seeking an enthusiastic Director to join its Board. The ideal candidate will have fundraising/communications or funding experience at a senior level from a corporate or government department or in the charity sector.
If you want to play a key role in developing and securing future services for Children, Adolescents, Young Adults and Survivors (CAYAS) living with cancer and their families, we are keen to hear from you.
Childhood Cancer Foundation Ireland over the past 11 years has grown exponentially. In 2022 we were joined by CanCare4Living and have rebranded under Childhood Cancer Ireland after a facilitated merger process.
We are at a pivotal moment for the charity where we need to grow both our membership and opportunities for commercial growth.
We are looking for an experienced individual who can assist with the establishment and ongoing management of a fundraising strategy that will allow Childhood Cancer Ireland to grow its revenue streams and cultivate relationships with new community partners and corporate CSR opportunities including the media and key influencers.
We very much welcome applications and interest from those who have a strong understanding and empathy for those living with a CAYA cancer diagnosis, its effects and beyond.
This Board of Directors role is unpaid in line with the Charities Regulator requirements; however, reasonable expenses may be paid in line with Childhood Cancer Ireland’s expenses policy.
Responsibilities will include the following:
- Providing input to the strategic direction of CCI fundraising and funding aims and contributing with expertise and oversight of our funding applications
- Assist with our funding applications and funding development
- Provide advice and direction on best practices in the area of funding options for the best interests of both the organisation and our members
Essential Skills/Qualities required for this role:
- A deep appreciation of the Not-For-Profit sector and its workings
- At least 3 year’s experience operating at a senior level
- An understanding of and commitment to our mission and vision and the ability to work in partnership with fellow Directors and our Executive Team.
- Ability to think strategically and to contribute to the overall well-being and direction of the organisation.
- Commitment to the highest levels of charity governance
- Previous experience or knowledge of the charity sector is desirable e.g., previous board or sub-committee roles or volunteering experience.

The Board of Childhood Cancer Ireland is seeking an enthusiastic Director to join its Board. The ideal candidate will have Marketing, PR and Communications experience at a senior level in corporate or government department.

To achieve this aim, we are seeking a skilled and experienced individual to take on the crucial role of assisting in developing and delivering a comprehensive Marketing/PR/Communications strategy for our organisation.
We very much welcome applications and interest from those who have a strong understanding and empathy for those living with a CAYA cancer diagnosis, its effects and beyond.
This Board of Directors role is unpaid in line with the Charities Regulator requirements; however, reasonable expenses may be paid in line with Childhood Cancer Ireland’s expenses policy.
Responsibilities will include the following:
- Assisting in developing and implementing marketing, communications and PR campaigns to effectively convey our key messages and themes
- Ensuring best practices in marketing, public relations, and communications
- Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders (including fellow Board Members, our Executive Team, the CAYAS community, Healthcare & Corporate sectors and Government)
Essential Skills/Qualities required for these roles:
- A deep appreciation of the Not-For-Profit sector and its workings
