Childhood Cancer Foundation Ireland stands firmly with all families living with childhood cancer. The footage we have seen from Ukraine of families already shattered by a childhood cancer diagnosis, now in fear for their lives and unable to access treatment safely, is devastating.
How is Childhood Cancer Foundation Ireland helping?
As a member of Childhood Cancer International (CCI), we will continue to liaise closely with Childhood Cancer International Europe and support their assistance efforts on the ground in any way we can. CCI Europe and their Ukrainian members have the local access and knowledge to help families directly and to make a difference where it’s needed. So far, Childhood Cancer Foundation Ireland has made a donation of €5,000 to CCI Europe’s Ukraine fund, which you can read more about below.
Together with SIOPE Europe (the European Society for Paediatric Oncology), CCI Europe are also providing assistance to families who urgently need to re-locate to other European countries for treatment.
As you may have seen, one such family arrived in Ireland in the last few days and is now receiving treatment at Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin. Childhood Cancer Foundation Ireland has been in touch with CHI at Crumlin to offer our support and assist their efforts in any way that we can.
How can you help?
We all feel so helpless right now as we watch the news every night. Financial assistance to those working on the ground, like CCI Europe, is the most effective way we can help right now.
CCI Europe have established the Ukrainian Childhood Cancer Emergency Fund and are accepting donations, if you are in a position to help. You can find out more about how the fund will be used and make your donation here: https://ccieurope.eu/ukrainian-childhood-cancer-emergency-fund/
