Light it up Gold

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
– a time to stand with children, young people, and families, to raise awareness, and to shine a light on the real and lasting impact of childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer.
Throughout the month, we come together to raise awareness, build understanding, and show support for children, young people and families affected by cancer.
Why gold?
The gold ribbon is the international symbol of childhood cancer awareness.
We #GoGold because our children are more precious than gold.
Lighting buildings up gold, sharing stories, and wearing gold helps make childhood cancer more visible and reminds families that they are not alone.
Ways to #GoGold
There are lots of simple ways you can get involved and show your support during September:
🎗 Show your support by changing your profile picture to a gold ribbon or Childhood Cancer Awareness image
🎗 Wear a gold ribbon pin to help make childhood cancer more visible in your community
🎗 Share your story – tell others how Childhood Cancer Ireland has supported your family, or share our posts and podcast to help build understanding
🎗 Follow us on social media throughout the month for updates, events, and ways to support
Every action, big or small, helps raise awareness and show solidarity with families affected by childhood cancer.

Lighting it up Gold
Each September, we light prominent buildings and landmarks across Ireland up gold to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and show visible support for children and young people affected by cancer.
Buildings that light gold include (not an exclusive list):
- The Rock of Cashel
- Liberty Hall
- City Hall
- Dublin Civic Offices
- Glenveagh Castle, Donegal
- Leitrim County Council
- Belfast City Hall
- Cavan Town Hall
- Shannon Airport
- Dunbrody Famine Ship
Light it up Gold Walk
Every year, we gather for a very special walk, filled with love, remembrance, and light. Families whose children are in treatment, survivors who inspire us with their strength, and those walking in memory of beloved children, all come together as one.
This year our candlelit walk will take place in Maynooth, Co. Kildare on Saturday 12th September 2026 from 6.30pm, bringing families and the community together in solidarity and to shine a light on living with and beyond childhood cancer.
Fundraise for Us
We are a small charity, making a big impact across the country. We do this without government funding. It’s communities, volunteers, and corporate partners who make our work possible.
Help us keep supporting those who don’t always have the strength to shout louder.
This September, would you consider organising a fundraising event for Childhood Cancer Ireland? Here are a few ideas.
- Take a box of our beautiful gold ribbon pins to sell locally or in your workplace
- Organise a coffee morning in your community
- Organise a cake sale
- Take on a personal challenge like a cycle or walk
- Keep an eye on our Lions Clubs of Ireland event page, as there may be one close to you that you’d like to support
- Make a one-off or regular donation
